Creative new uses of existing tools has allowed modest startups to compete against existing technological giants. On the other hand, there is a significant technical overhead involved in the efficient use of AI tools. This puts practical AI closer to software engineering.

Thus, a challenge for diverse institutions such as big or small companies or research labs is to identify the skill sets required for taking advantage of AI capabilities. Currently, those skills appear to be a moving target. The only guarantee seems to be that they will keep changing.
